The Primal Wound: Haven't Read it Yet? Watch the Clips

I always recommend "The Primal Wound" by Nancy Verrier to anyone who wants to look more deeply into the Psychological and even a little bit of the Sociological science of adoptee loss (including Infant Mental Health). Nancy Verrier has been a psychotherapist for decades and is an Adoptive Mother. It is about average in length for a paperback but can take a while to read because it can be a bit overwhelming, especially for anyone who has been impacted by adoption or has experienced a similar loss. Peach passed these clips of an interview with Nancy Verrier on the other day and I thought I would post them here. You get the gist of her book in these clips.

  1. She's the only adopter I know of who writes as if she really understands and accepts.

  2. I am an adoptive mom. My girls are from Ethiopia. (sadly our case is closer to trafficking then adoption, but that is besides the point). I posted this ladies videos for a group of adoptive moms that I know. It was not nicely accepted. It blew my mind and upset me, that some choose to close their eyes to the REAL feelings their children might experience. But, then one came back later and said it took a little time for her to be able to listen, because it made her feel scared and defensive. I feel it is our JOB as AP's to educate ourselves on what feelings our kids might experience. Im grateful for people like you, who are able to step out and say "Hey, here is how it feels!" You are being a voice for our children that they dont have yet!!! God Bless You!!!
