How to Put Your Blog on Kindle

Until someone emailed me and suggested to me to put my blog on Kindle, I never knew I could do such a thing.  I also did not have a  Kindle (do now, thanks Dad-in-law!) at the time so the concept was foreign to me.  It's free for you to add your blog and the blog section on Kindle is sorely lacking of Adult Adoptee blogs, so, consider adding yours!  At any rate, here is how to put your blog on Kindle.....

Adding Your Blog....

Click here to go to the Kindle Publishing for Blogs page.

You'll need to sign up for an account and then follow the instructions to add a blog.

Possible FAQs
There are also little guides on these on the right-hand side of the "add a blog" form.

RSS/Atom feed address:  most blogs have a "follow me" option where you can click an orange box to find the feed address.  Copy and paste the feed address into the area on the form that requests it.

Masthead: create a masthead to go with your blog page.  Just make sure it's  430 x 50.  For mine, I think I just used a version of my blog banner that I altered to fit the required size specifications.  If you're not into making graphics and banners for yourself, you might be able to take a screen shot (you can use the directions below) of the header of your blog and size it down to fit the size requirements using Paint.

Screen Shot: to make a screen shot of the blog, go to your blog and position it in your Internet browser showing what you'd like your screen shot to show.  Hit the "Print Scr" button on your keyboard (it's usually somewhere over next to "scroll lock").  Then open Paint (or whatever photo program you have) and hit Ctrl+v.  You can then use Paint (or whatever photo program you have) to crop out all the other stuff (it will show whatever was on your entire screen at the time you hit the "Print Scr" button) and just save the image of your blog.  Save it as an image file (.jpg, .jpeg., .gif, .png) and then upload into the appropriate spot on the "add a blog" form.

Continuing On....

It's been a while since I added my blog but I believe after you've finished the form and hit the "Publish Blog to Kindle" button, within 48 hours, your blog will have its own page in the Kindle store.  I believe they also send you an email with your Kindle page link and to let you know your blog is up on Amazon.com and ready to be subscribed to by Kindle users.  Just in case, you can always to go Amazon.com, type the name of your blog in the search bar and narrow the search to "Kindle" to see if it has been added.

Other Neat Things

The Blog Image:  To get the nifty image that I have (see my right-hand side bar as well as the icon below this paragraph), go to your blog's Kindle page on Amazon.com.  You will see the screen shot that you uploaded on your "add a blog" form there displayed with a Kindle image in tact.  Hit "Print Scr" and copy and past into Paint (or whatever photo program you use) and crop the image to show just the Kindle graphic with the screen shot of your blog.  Save as a .jpeg or .jpg.
Then go to your blogger.com dashboard and go to where you edit your blog design.  Select the "add a photo" widget.  Upload the graphic you just made following the instructions above.  Copy and paste the URL to your blog's Kindle/Amazon page in the spot where it asks you if you'd like to link the picture to something.  Save.  Then position the widget where you'd like it to be on your blog.  Save.  Viola!

The Product Amazon.com Image/Links in Posts Gadget: there have been times where I have searched Amazon.com for an adoption book and couldn't find the book the person suggested or some of the titles were so close to other things, I wasn't sure which book was the right one.  I saw people adding book links and images to their blogs through Amazon and thought that was a good way to eliminate confusion.  This is called "Amazon Associates."  Go to the "monetize" option on your blog and click the Amazon Associates link.  It will tell you how to sign up for an account and it will automatically install the widget to appear along side where you go to type each new blog entry (use is optional and you can always hit the "x" to make the widget disappear).  You can show blogs and books etc. on your blog this way.

Hope that helped!
