Today is International Women's Day

Today, March 8, 2011, is International Women's Day.  It is a day dedicated to honoring the Suffragettes who fought for the right of Women to vote, a day to reflect on the strengths and other accomplishments of women, and a day to raise awareness about Women's Issues that are a concern today.

There are so many strong women I admire.  I admire my moms, a recent professor I had, my fellow women Adoptee Rights Advocates and Allies.  I admire my women Search Angel friends who spend hours tracing tiny clues to reunite family members separated by adoption for free.  I admire our adoptee foremothers who started the fight for our rights and spoke out when there was little societal climate of acceptance for such things from adoptees in decades past.  I admire women all over the world who struggle to overcome poverty, injustice, and inequality.

Who do you admire?  What issues are important to you?

  1. All women are important to me.... I admire the woman that cleans house and cooks, the one that has babies, the one that doesn't, the one that go to college, the one that work in housekeeping.... all of them are important. Theirs is to keep us alive...

I honor those that fight for each other and women's rights, including reproductive and the right to parent their own children....

I honor those that have spouses in the military or are in the military.... they serve no less than the men of our nation.

I find the most important women of all are those that make me think and grow - and to them, I give my mind - for they are my teachers......
