Oh the Things Kids Say

An actual picture of M and I.

I love how little kids are blunt and honest; they say exactly what's on their mind.  My son is no exception.  One day he was sitting on my lap, gazing lovingly at my face.  "Do you love Mama?" I asked him.  He loves to say "I love you."  He paused and tapped me on the nose, "I love Mama's nose ring."  It wasn't me he was gazing at; it was the shiny stud in my nose.

The other week, he tells me "happy birthday Mama!"  He tells me "happy birthday" about once a day...every day.  But this particular day, he was right.  "It is really my birthday today, buddy," I reply.

"Oh," he says.  "Can I have cake?"

Yesterday at my mother-in-law's house, M very matter-of-factly verbalized his official critique of her Weight Watcher's baked ziti recipe.

"This is gross; it needs more cheese."

This evening, one of my first aunts uploaded some old family photos she found onto Facebook and wanted me to look at them.  M loves looking at pictures of people he knows and calling out their names excitedly as he recognizes them.  I stopped at a picture of my first mom in her early 30's with my brother who was a baby at the time.  M pointed at the picture "that's Mama and baby M!" he said, referring to he and I in third person, as he often does.

A picture of people who look so much like us, he thought it was us.
