Inspirational Sundays: Untitled Poem

Guest Entry by Kev Conner

This is a poem written by my friend and fellow Social Work major.  It isn't about adoption or being adopted, though, he is the son of an adult adoptee and I try to feature writing by adoptees and their family members as often as possible.  When he posted it on his Facebook page, I demanded (really nicely!) that he let me post it here.  Thanks, Kev!

I understand the bird in the cage,
the dolphin confined to the glass prison,
the lion locked away...
tamed. forgotten. silenced.
Denied of releasing their rage
Denied their freedom to soar run through the bush slice through the waves...
I envy the birds that can ride the wind,
feel the breeze, gently caressing their wings...
I envy that feeling of freedom.
I envy the sleek dolphin that has the ocean has her playground,
the fun. the joy. the family...
I envy the Lord of the Land - The Lion.
With a roar he commands respect,
For miles.
with a stand,
exemplifies the pinnacle of Confidence and,
Courage.
I understand how once taken and caged, they all become something else...
They become...
something like me.
Always wanting to fly away from the cage,
Always wanting to swim into the vastness of the sea,
Always wanting to run...
Free.
